2019 Conference
The purpose of the Psychology and the Other Conference is to enrich conversations at the intersections of philosophy, psychology, and theological/religious studies, particularly emphasizing scholarship around the notion of the “Other.” Our hope is that our conversations and collaborations will challenge and deepen our various disciplines.
The conference will be held from October 4th- 6th, 2019 at Lesley University's Brattle Campus on 99 Brattle Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA.
We are excited to announce some of our plenary speakers!

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) Available
A maximum of 21 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Psychologists, Social Workers and Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) are available over the 3 days of the conference, depending on which sessions are attended. This is not counting the pre-conference workshop. Each plenary and invited address during the conference is eligible for 1.5 CEUs. It is the participant’s responsibility to make sure that the program in which they are participating is CEU eligible (this is clearly marked on the conference program).
It is the responsibility of each conference participant to comply with the following instructions in order to receive CEUs:
-
The participant must be present for the entirety of the 1.5-hour address for which they are seeking CEUs.
-
The participant must acquire an evaluation form during the first 10 minutes of the address. These will be available at the respective entrances to the rooms within which the address is taking place. Please note: evaluation forms will not be provided later, as their distribution time verifies your entry time.
-
The participant must collect an attendance verification sticker at the conclusion of the session. These will be available at the respective entrances to the sessions within which the address is taking place. Please note: Stickers will not be provided later, as their distribution time verifies your exit time.
-
For each 1.5-hour CEU eligible program, the participant must complete the evaluation, affix the attendance verification sticker at the bottom of the evaluation form, and turns in at registration tables located in Washburn Hall or Sheraton Commander.
-
The participant must complete a yellow CEU request form and CEU checklist (on back of yellow form) that is available at the registration/check-in table. This form and all individual CEU evaluation forms should be turned in together to the main registration tables (located in Washburn Hall or Sheraton Commander) before leaving the conference.
Each participant will receive a signed CEU certificate via email in the weeks following the conference. There is no additional cost for CEUs beyond the conference registration.
CEU Sponsorship
The Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis is graciously sponsoring CEUs for Psychologists. The Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Boston University School of Social Work Professional Education Program Department in collaboration with the Danielsen Institute is graciously sponsoring CEUs for Social Workers. For Social Workers from outside of Massachusetts, it is imperative that they contact their licensure board to determine whether these CEUs are recognized and applicable in their home state.
The Psychology and the Other Institute is providing sponsorship for CEUs for Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC). Psychology and the Other is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. These credits are accepted by the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Licensed Mental Health Counselors (Category I contact hours in Content Area I).
